Shelf Reliance Sale. Explanation and Customer Letter.

Sale explanation for consultant:
Everything on the sale is a Costco match. So if a customer wants to purchase it they need to contact you. If they are a Q club member AND they are logged in they will be able to purchase the buckets online at the sale price.
Here is an example:
"Sally" is your customer, but she does not have a Q, she typically gets your emails and just shops through your consultant website. When she shops the prices that she sees, whether there is a sale or not, will be consultant website pricing.
When we have a sale through Costco, the only possible way to get that price for your customers would be to have them call you because almost all Costco products are not available on the main website, only through your back office, hence, "Unadvertised Specials"
The sale that is on now is a little bit different though, and that is because the items that are on sale at Costco are the exact same items that we have at Shelf Reliance. Meaning they are not exclusive Costco packages, they are individual products instead, the buckets. This makes it so your Q customers can order online and get the current sale price on the buckets on their own, but they MUST log into their Shelf Reliance customer account. It is important for them to log into their account so the computer recognizes that they are Q customers and are eligible for the best price. The other products are are on sale would have to be purchased through you though, and that is because they are not advertised.
In conclusion, for this particular sale, here is what would be best to remember:
Q customers can log into their customer account and place an order for the buckets (Wheat Flour Bucket - ID 24117, White Rice Bucket - ID 24119, Chicken TVP Bucket - 24559, Beef TVP Bucket - 24558) that are currently on sale, and they would still get the sale price. If they want to purchase any of the other current sale items (H20 Reserve 20 Pack - ID 25442, Water Filtration Bottle 12 Pack - ID 25416, Harvest 72" #10 - 11949, Ultimate Veggie Package - ID 25355) they would need to contact you and place the order over the phone. If you would like to make things easier on you and the customer I would recommend having them contact you for everything.
Regular customers (non-Q-customers) must contact you to get of the above mentioned items for the sale price. If they do not, they will be unable to get the sale price on the buckets, and they wouldn't even be able to find the emergency and FRS items.

Customer Letter:  This is how I let my customers know about the sale.  Please remember to change the contact info to your info.  The email says that “I’ve attached photos", make sure you actually do attach the photos.

Product Review: Powdered Egg Whites, and Pavlova Recipe

Product Review: Powdered Egg Whites
I’ve been cooking with the powdered egg whites for about a month.  Powdered Egg Whites is the new product that I have been most excited about.

How are powdered egg whites different from regular egg whites:
  • Powdered Egg Whites are pasteurized so no need to worry about salmonella.
  • They don’t seem to whip quite as high as fresh egg whites.  In most recipes I have ended up doubling the amount of egg whites.  For example in the recipe below it called for 4 egg whites but I ended up using the equivalent of 8 egg whites in order to get the correct volume.
  • The amount of egg white powder called for in a recipe is SMALL even with the doubling.  I would recommend purchasing pantry cans of Egg white powder.  I can’t imagine I will make it though the number 10 can I have before it expires.
  • So what can you make with powdered egg whites?  Meringue, marshmallows, royal icing, angel food cake, and my favorite pavlova.
  • How did the taste and texture compare, between fresh egg whites and powdered egg whites?   Honestly we could not tell the difference.  My husband said that he thought the powdered yielded a slightly denser pavlova.  I did not think it was noticeable.

Easy Pavlova
adapted from:  allrecipes.com

Printable Recipe

This is my husband’s favorite dessert.  It is an easy and relatively healthy treat.  We sometime substitute a pureed fruit sauce for the whipped cream, making it even healthier.

8 tsp egg white powder plus ⅓ cup water.
1 1/4 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons cornstarch

1 pint heavy cream, whipped and sweetened
6 kiwi, peeled and sliced or fruit of your choice--we really like peaches

1.  Pre-heat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Draw a 9 inch circle on the parchment paper.
2.  In a large bowl, beat egg white powder and water until stiff but not dry. Gradually add in the sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat until thick and glossy. Over beaten egg whites lose volume and deflate when folded into other ingredients.  Gently fold in vanilla extract, lemon juice and cornstarch.
3.  Spoon mixture inside the circle drawn on the parchment paper. Working from the center, spread mixture toward the outside edge, building edge slightly. This should leave a slight depression in the center.
4.  Bake for 1 hour. Cool on a wire rack.
5.  In a small bowl beat heavy cream until stiff peaks form; set aside. Remove the paper, and place meringue on a flat serving plate. Fill the center of the meringue with whipped cream, sweetened if desired. Top whipped cream with kiwifruit slices.

Waffel Iron Cheesy Hashbrowns

A few weeks ago my sister and her family were visiting.  We started talking about food and by brother in law Jake brought up making hashbrowns in the waffle iron.

Jake: “Have you ever made hashbrowns in the waffle iron?”

Me:  “No, why would you do that?”

Jake:  “They are so easy and it makes super crispy hashbrowns”

Well that got my attention.  My husband LOVE crispy hashbrowns, but he only gets them when we go out for breakfast.   So I thought I would give it a try.

It turned out awesome.  We loved them.

You can make this recipe without the cheese.  But it is delicious.

Cheesy Waffle Iron Hashbrowns
Ingredients
  • 1 medium potatos
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Shredded cheese (optional but delicious)
  • salt and pepper + other seasonings, to taste
Instructions
  1. Wash and shred the potato.
  2. Put potatoes in a bowl and mix in beaten egg, cheese and salt, pepper, and any seasonings you like.
  3. Spray the pre-heated waffle iron with cooking spray, and layer the potatoes on the iron, about 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Close the lid and let them cook, checking on them after about 10-15 minutes.  Top with additional shredded cheese if desired.  Eat immediately.

THRIVE Smart Start Review

What is included in the Thrive Smart Start?
When you purchase all three kits (3 months) you get
  •  1 recipe book with 26 recipes from Chef Todd Lenard, monthly menu planners, and shopping list cards
  •   50 Pantry cans of THRIVE foods
  •  12 pouches of THRIVE express (one of each)

Why would you want THRIVE Smart Start?

As a customer the THRIVE Smart start is a great way to start the Q.  (I’m not just saying that I really do think it is).  It gives customers a chance to tray a wide variety of foods in a variety of recipes.  This is a great way for the to decide what they like and how they would use it.

As a preper THRIVE Smart Start s is a great way to try before you buy.  Lots of prepers buy huge packages of food without ever tasting it only to find out it is not so good.  With the smart start program they get enough of the products that they can try it in every day recipes and then not have to open up the larger number 10 cans to see what is inside.

As a busy mom—this is a great way to get healthy food on the table fast.  I know that I love having a variety of THRIVE foods in my home store, both to make dinner with and to give my kids as healthy snacks.

Smart Start Resources:
·         Flyer:
·         Smart Start FAQs

Things to know about THRIVE Smart Start
  • It is only available through the Q.
  • Cost is $149.99 per month
  •  It is cheaper to purchase in the Smart Start packs then to purchase individually, you receive a 5% discount with the THRIVE Smart Start pack compared to purchasing these products individually.
  • How to add Thrive Smart Start Packs to a Q.
Option 1: If you are setting up a new Q for the first time, you have the option to add the THRIVE Smart
Start pack to the Q through the THRIVE Planner. Step three of this process is called “Add Ons,” and you will be asked if you want to add the THRIVE Smart Start pack to your Q at that point. Select “Yes” to have the pack added to your Q.

Option 2: If you already have a Q and want to add the Smart Start pack, log in to your Q account. Select “View/Edit Q Settings and Shipments.” This will take you to your Q summary page. On that page, there is a left hand column. Select the “Add products” option from that column. This will bring up a “quick pick page” where you can select each of the three monthly packages.

My Review of THRIVE Smart Start Month 1.

I was excited to get my box.  I opened it with my kids and it was super fun.

Positive things:
  • It is a fun package to receive.  It is in a unique box that is very fun/friendly to open.
  • There are a lot of products.  I felt like I was unpacking a ton of stuff.
  • All of the recipes for the 3 kits come in the first shipment.  This is great because it has me looking forward to what will come next month.
  • I think this is a great way for people to try out a variety of the foods we offer, and really cook with the food to decide what things they like and what they don’t.
  • I was a little worried that the recipes were going to be nothing new. But I am kind of excited to try them all.  How does Almond Apricot Thumbprint Cookies sound (from month 3) ?  Or Lemon Blueberry Crisp (from month 3)?  Or Sour Cream and Cheese Potatoes (from month 2)?   I’m pretty excited to try them.
  • I like that the THRIVE express is included in each month.  This helps customers try a wide variety of products over time.

Negative things about the THRIVE Quick Start:
  • There is a lot of flour in the first shipment.  3 pantry cans of it.  I would personally never buy flour in a pantry can so I think it is kind of odd.
  • There is no Freeze Dried Meat.  This is one of products that people really love and would have like to have had some meat in the package.
    • The reason there is not meat is because they were trying to keep the price down and the meat is expensive.
  • There are 5 recipes in month 1.  Cornbread, Cheese Bread, Strawberry Puree, Carmel Sauce, and Strawberry Banana Smoothie.    I thought it was kind of slim.  The caramel sauce and the strawberry puree are both toppings to put over ice cream or toast (or whatever).  But as I look at what comes in month 2 and 3 there are a lot more recipes.
Conclusion:  I liked it. If I were buying it again I would.  I would recommend it to a friend or a customer.  I do think that if you are planning on purchasing the THRIVE Smart Start you should plan on purchasing all three months.    If you are looking into purchasing a large amount of food storage I would recommend purchasing the Smart Start as a way to decide what foods your family likes before you invest a ton of money.

Make Ahead Meals: Manti Pageant Chicken

Have you been to the Manti Pageant?   If you live in Utah you have probably been.  If not I'll explain.
The Manti Pageant  also know as the "Mormon Miracle Pageant"  is held every summer in Manti Utah.  Thousands of people make the trek to Manti to watch this free pageant that details the life and teachings of Joseph Smith.

The best part of the Manti Pageant is the food.  Before the pageant you can have a delicious dinner of  barbeque turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, roll, and a dessert for only $7.00.  It is a wonderful thing.

I haven't been to the pageant in years but I still remember the food.  My mom passed this recipe onto me and it is great for the summer.  Make it ahead of time and throw it on the grill right before you are ready to eat.  Traditionally this recipe is made from turkey, but I have a hard time finding great turkey for grilling so I use chicken.

This is one of my favorite recipes.  It works great as a make ahead meal or a freezer meal.

Manti Pageant Chicken

1/2 cup oil
2 cups 7-up
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder  (not garlic salt, not fresh garlic)
1/2 cup soy sauce

Chicken - 4-6 chicken breasts, or turkey  (fresh is best, it marinades better, frozen will work).

Mix together first 5 ingredients in a gallon zipper bag.  Add turkey or chicken and smoosh around.

Store uncooked:  In the fridge--1 week , Frozen 3 months.

Defrost meat.  Remove chicken from marinade.  Discard marinade.
Grill until cooked through. The temperature at the thickest part of the chicken should read.  165 degrees Fahrenheit.
