If the worst happened and you needed to support your family out of your garden could you? My husband and I often talk about this, we have pretty much decided that, no we could not feed our family off the land around our home. We do have a decent amount of land for a suburban home, but we also live in an area with a relatively short growing season. That is one of the reasons that I am so dedicated to food storage. I know we are limited in the amount of food we could grow.
I recently ran across this info graphic and found it very interesting. It visually shows how much land you would need to feed a family of four for a year. There are of course geographic considerations to make when planning for self-sufficiency, with that said, it is an interesting thing to think about.
